Over 22,000 Afghan Families Flee From Kandahar, Once A Bastion Of Taliban

Since early May, violence has surged throughout Afghanistan along with Kandahar after the Taliban launched a sweeping offensive simply days after the US-led overseas forces commenced their closing withdrawal.

 Kandahar: More than 22,000 Afghan households have fled from their houses to break out warfare in the former Taliban bastion of Kandahar, officers stated Sunday, as authorities arrested 4 suspected insurgents over this week's rocket assault on Kabul.

Since early May, violence has surged throughout various provinces which include Kandahar after the insurgents launched a sweeping offensive simply days after the US-led overseas forces started out their last withdrawal.

The Taliban's lethal assault has considered the insurgents seize ratings of districts, border crossings, and encircle various provincial capitals.

"The combat has displaced 22,000 households in the previous one month in Kandahar," Dost Mohammad Daryab, head of the provincial refugee department, instructed AFP.

Kandahar resident Hafiz Mohammad Akbar stated his residence had been taken over by way of the Taliban after he fled.

"They pressured us to leave... I am now dwelling with my 20-member household in a compound with no toilet," stated Akbar.

Fears of warfare to increase
